Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a professional organization whose mission is “to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence. Their focus revolves around the upstream Oil and Gas industry, and has more than 168,000 members in 144 countries. In addition, SPE houses one of the world’s most elaborate young professional’s organizations, also having a local chapter here in Calgary. These chapters work to serve the needs of young professionals, 35 years of age or less, with less than 10 years work experience. These include technical and soft skill seminars, social events, mentorships and networking opportunities.

Our Connection

As a SPE Student Chapter, PES provides an operating framework for SPE’s activities at the university level. PES fosters SPE’s mission by equipping students with the technical knowledge and professional skills to give them a competitive advantage in the industry. PES’s partnership with SPE gives students access to a huge network of industry professionals, publications, workshops, and presentations. Each year, PES sends a delegation of 20 students to SPE’s flagship event; the Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition. SPE and PES have a long lasting and mutually beneficial relationship, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the years to come.
